LISA GRANTHAM AND TOM Heisroth were searching for a home in Cherry Creek North when they met Ben Fiedler of RE/MAX of Cherry Creek at one of his open houses in the neighborhood. “The market had come back with a vengeance, and we wanted an agent who was well connected and would know how to help us ‘win,’ says Grantham, a Regional VP of Sales for a vision healthcare company.
“The home where we met Ben was beautifully done, but simply not our taste. When we’ve met other listing agents before at open houses, they usually push that home on you – Ben was different,” says Grantham.
The three met by phone the next week to find out what was most important to them.
“When buyers are purchasing in Cherry Creek or nearby, they have very specific requirements of what they need in their next home – and what they are more open to,” says Fiedler. “With Tom and Lisa, an open floor plan and space for a wine room was essential.
We also needed a property that either had an elevator or the potential to add one. Finally, we needed a house that had solid outdoor living space that they could enjoy throughout the year.”
Grantham and Heisroth wanted to live in Cherry Creek North to be walkable to neighborhood dining and shopping, so that once they are home, there is no need to drive. “We love having a meal on the patio of Le Merise,” one of their favorite spots, says Heisroth. “There are so many delicious choices and shopping here is a treat,” says Grantham.
After showings of likely hits, Grantham and Heisroth found a home that met all of their must haves. But, it would still need complete redecorating. Competition was stiff and while their offer price was as strong as any, the winning buyer was all cash.
When the deal was not won, Fiedler scheduled a meeting to adjust strategy. ”Ben presented the concept of buying a townhome or duplex that had the bones and amenities that we needed, but needed renovation. It caught our attention,” says Heisroth. Heisroth is Senior Vice President, Staples Advantage, the office products and services company’s strategic accounts division.
Soon, Fiedler learned of an opportunity from an agent that wasn’t on the market, but that he had done deals with before. The property marked all of the must haves on their list. The price was attractive and Fiedler put the deal together for Grantham and Heisroth.
“Tom and Lisa have very full lives with their careers, but recognized that this space could be exactly what they wanted for their next chapter. When we looked at the space, I shared my experience with renovations and drew illustrations. Lisa and Tom were both able to look past the current finishes and visualize their dream home. Lisa could see opening up the floor plan. Tom could see a wine room just off the kitchen – and the space for the elevator,” says Fiedler.
Grantham was introduced to Momoko Morton, an interior designer who had recently designed a beautiful renovation for neighbors. The two immediately hit it off, ”We saw Momo’s work at a neighbors and loved her sense of design and her personality” says Grantham, a veteran of many renovations.
“Lisa and Tom we’re looking for a warm, transitional and open concept on their main floor, with a similar feel in the Master retreat and we needed to include a wine room and elevator as well,” says Morton.
The design and the transformation was exactly what Grantham and Heisroth were looking for,”Momoko exceeded our expectations. We loved the selections she helped us make and the vendors and craftsmen she included in our project,” says Grantham.
“Our home is both our retreat and a great space to entertain and host friends and family,” says Heisroth.
